DIY Rosemary, Lavender + Honey Shampoo

My hair loves a good baking soda wash. My hair tends to grow thicker, and longer and it brings out my natural curls in such a good way but – I finally went and had a hair cut, the first in over a year and I realized my scalp was feeling a little dry so I did a little research and came up with this DIY shampoo that still has baking soda in it, but also is a little more moisturizing! Even with a baking soda wash I always condition with an apple cider vinegar rinse so I still condition with the ACV rinse but swapped it from a squeeze bottle to a spray bottle which works so much better!

Here’s what I included in my shampoo!

Lavender castille soap: Castille soap is a vegetable soap derived from olive oil, lye and water. It’s gentle, non-toxic, and biodegradable and a fantastic alternative to traditional soap. It’s strong enough to remove product build-up and excessive dirt/oils but gentle enough so as not to strip away our natural oils.  FYI: castille soap is alkaline, meaning a high PH level which tends to open the hair cuticle releasing hair dyes quicker. So if you colour your hair I wouldn’t recommend using a castille soap. This is why using an apple cider vinegar rinse is important as it helps balance out the PH level.

lavender is considered a sort of antiseptic which will help cure an itchy, dry scalp and the restorative, healing properties of lavender oil will help prevent hair fall, and therefore help to thicken your hair.

Baking soda: baking soda is also a great alternative for washing hair. Similar to castille soap it will remove excess build up but not too strong to remove the natural oils that our hair needs.

Rosemary + Cedarwood essential oils: this oil helps stimulate the hair follicle making hair grow stronger and longer.

Raw Honey: honey is amazing for nourishing your hair. It contains vitamins, minerals and attracts moisture. I found a locally sourced raw honey from the Chilliwack River Valley Honey.

Vitamin E: helps reduce inflammation to your scalp and repair damaged hair follicles.

1/4 cup boiled water, cooled

1/4 cup raw honey
